I have been often startled entering Central Park and other NYC parks over the years to discover that on many occasions I have found the majority of the lights were brightly lit in the middle of the day. What I find so striking about this phenomenon is that I live in a distinctly politically progressive city. With many of the people living here the issue of climate change is elevated to a religious fervor. Of course, electricity in this country is generated primarily by utilizing natural gas and coal. Wasting and thereby having to generate more electricity provides further opportunities for additional carbon dioxide to be released into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide produced and released into the atmosphere during the process of generating electricity is attributed by these very same people as a primary cause of climate change.
Liberalism in practice never works on any level or in any form and for that matter in any other country.
My best guess would be that the progressive powers in charge in NYC would be distressed by so blatant a demonstration of wasting electricity thereby contributing to increasing climate change and make a priority of fixing the problem, however, evidently this is not the case. The incidences of park lights on in the middle of the day may seem to be a minor issue, however, I find it directly symbolic of something considerably more fundamental. It is that Liberalism in practice does not work as an efficient and effective model or as a basis of a properly functioning and effective ruling government on any level or in any form and for that matter in any other country.
Intentions and outcomes are the two sides of every policy decision made by leaders in power. Progressives often portray that they have “good” intentions, however, their policies usually offer negative and damaging consequences usually leaving the original problem even more challenging to solve. Accountability to the people for positive results of government policies, programs and actions should be the ongoing priority of our leaders and civil servants. Facing challenging times in our country on so many fronts, progressive oriented Government’s distinct record of unsatisfactory results whether under Obama on a Federal level or De Blasio on a local level in solving many of our most pressing challenges is and was front and center.
A distinctive change of direction for our country was decided on election day.
In order to move forward and address the challenges that face us, it is important to have a clear understanding of what the American voter decided on November 8, 2016. President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Mayor Bill De Blasio continue to share a vision of America that offers to move the political pendulum significantly more to the left at an accelerating rate and grow Government’s role in each of our lives. Enough Americans were alarmed that the previous Administration had implemented policies based on the liberal progressive agenda and it failed us so miserably. Republican won races on all levels across the country driving the Democratic Party on the whole to a distinct minority status.
All evidence points to the expansion of the role of the Federal Government under Obama and State and Local Governments in several “Blue” states and cities as the root causes of many of the leading challenges that we face today as a nation. Are the “Blue” states of California, Illinois, New York and the cities of Chicago and Baltimore where the country should look for workable examples of well-functioning governments and policy these days?
Bill De Blasio remains as Mayor of NYC so it is guaranteed that the lights that will be on in my next visit to Central Park during a bright sunny day and this will be my personal reminder and proof that Liberalism and Big Government in practice does not work and I will continue to vote accordingly in the future. I recommend that each American make an objective evaluation of their personal experience with the role of government in their life and do the same.
