Trump Tower located on Fifth Avenue between East 56th and 57th Streets in Midtown Manhattan has always been a popular tourist attraction. Since the election of President Trump, the building has taken on a special significance. Special security measures are in effect around the blocks surrounding the building and large crowds gather and visit the area in addition to the office workers and shoppers that are regularly present in large numbers.
While I was walking the other day through the crowds across Fifth Avenue from Trump Tower, I found myself following directly behind a college age couple with a distinctly grungy look that were walking right in front of me. I witnessed and overheard remarks and gestures made by the couple that were startling and troubling. In unison, they both “flipped the bird” in the direction of Trump Tower and jointly said “It’s still America” granting themselves permission under the protection of the First Amendment for directing such a disrespectful gesture at the President of the United States.
Their behavior really angered me, however, when I began to realize this level of political discourse is not very different from what we witness daily from the Main Stream Media, the Celebrity Culture, elected Democrat office holders and the so-called “resistance”. All the elements of the Left are lined up in a unified way to create a constant barrage of negative coverage of the Trump Presidency without consideration of facts or reason. It is a purely an over the top pervasive series of emotional messages and reports mixed with rage and contempt; delivered without any degree of objectivity or rational thought by a variety of increasingly corrupt people and institutions.
American’s ever growing distrust and frustration with the mass media which includes the celebrity culture have reached historic highs. A common theme that runs through these feelings is the perception that our media institutions are an integral part of an increasingly indifferent, in-effective and incompetent Establishment that dominates the political and economic life of our country.
The failings of our mass media in this country are well documented. A person can follow the news through the main stream media and discover that it is challenging to encounter complete and fair coverage of the leading issues of the day. The main stream media is negligent in performing its essential duty to comprehensively and objectively report the news and understand and relate to the authentic concerns of many our citizens. It often utilizes a selective lens that provides a partisan view often favoring one side or the other, however, primarily it is an active advocate for liberal points of view on major issues and currently waging an all-out campaign to discredit anything to do with the Trump Administration.
Left leaning ideology and the promotion of this agenda often dominates the operation of most media organizations in their approach to the news. Further leading to the domination of our culture by left leaning principles is the strong interconnection of the main stream media and the left leaning Entertainment industry centered around Hollywood and New York.
A current day paradox is that an individual has an unprecedented access to a massive quantity of information on a 24/7 basis, however, insightful analysis and comprehensive coverage regarding the leading issues of the days is often lacking.
Journalism should be all about asking the right questions in a free and open environment, however, silence, omission and deception are the standard operating procedure of the Left leaning media when it comes to coverage of certain subjects and public figures that are of significance to them. Quite often, the silence is deafening when it comes to reporting on many issues and public figures especially President Trump indicating that the current state of our mass media is dysfunctional and corrupt. The main conclusion is that they tend to work primarily in their own self-interest fueled by their ideology and are all collectively “flipping the American public the bird”.
